DRILL broke his maiden in his second start at Del Mar, then captured the Gr. I Del Mar Futurity just 25 days later. Three weeks after that, he finished second in the Gr. I Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita. At three, he won the Gr. 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita and the Gr. 3 Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes at Hollywood Park. Among 130 2-year-olds weighted on the 2011 Experimental Handicap, DRILL was co-ranked 12th with Eclipse Champion Sprinter TRINNIBERG, ahead of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I'LL HAVE ANOTHER, millionaire Florida Derby-G1 winner TAKE CHARGE INDY, etc. DRILL’s dam, CAT DANCER, a daughter of STORM CAT, has sold as a broodmare for $885,000 (‘06 KEE/JAN) and $1.4 million (‘11 FTK/NOV), and her foals have sold for up to $1.5 million. She is sister to Gr. I-producer MAGIC STORM ( G2, G1SP). This is the female family of 3-year-old Champion LITTLE CURRENT, winner of the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
